Myford ML7 lathe K42284 with Newton Tesla Speed Controller

For sale: £1115 plus £84 delivery

This is a Myford ML 7 lathe bearing the serial number K42284 which means it was manufactured sometime between 1956 and 1960.

The micrometer dials to the cross slide and top slide are imperial and the machine is fitted with a screw cutting dial indicator. It has also been upgraded with a Hemingway Kits lead screw thrust bearing (item HK1470) to the right hand lead screw bearing, a saddle lock handle (item HK1900) plus the micrometer dials to the cross slide, top slide and tail stock have also been upgraded.

It comes with a Newton Tesla CL400 high performance speed controller and associated motor upgrade providing electronic variable speed control of the spindle.

The machine benefits from having had a full strip down service and inspection as part of the process of preparing it for sale. It has brand new vee belts on the primary drive motor to countershaft and secondary drive countershaft to headstock, plus a new wiper felt. For good measure, the oil nipples have all been replaced with new items. During my inspection the movement of the carriage along the bed felt very consistent, with little tightening when approaching the right hand end which might otherwise indicate some wear to the bed. The condition of the lead screw nuts can be seen in the final photo.

Also included are the following accessories …

  • 3 jaw self centering chuck with inside and outside jaws plus key
  • Myford quick change tool post plus 10 tool holders
  • 7″ face plate
  • 4 1/2″ Myford V1106 catch plate
  • 2 x drill chuck with MT2 mount for use in the tailstock
  • MT2 dead centre, half centre and live centre for use in the tailstock
  • selection of change gears
  • copy of a Myford lathe operating manual

Please review the photos and video to assess the condition of this item. As is often the case with some batches of machines coming out of the Beeston works, the enamel paintwork to the bed has dried out over time resulting in some cracking and flaking of the final layer of grey revealing the cream high build primer.

Collection in person of this lathe is available. Alternatively, shipping to GB non-remote postcodes with Monday to Friday anytime delivery is available for the price given in the listing. If shipping to Highland/Remote/NI postcodes is required or Saturday or AM / PM delivery, please contact me for the additional cost. The item will be bolted onto a pallet for delivery.

Note that my workbench on which the machine has been placed for the purpose of taking photos is not included in the sale.
