Myford Super 7B lathe SK157790 with cabinet

Sorry, now sold

This is a Myford Super 7 lathe serial number SK157790 with power cross feed and fitted with the quick change gearbox serial number QC157036. The machine serial number dates the year of manufacture around 1984 or 1985. It is mounted on a Myford cabinet stand with deep tray and riser blocks.

There is also a thread dial indicator fitted to the carriage, and the micrometer dials to the cross slide and top slide are numbered 0 to 90, indicating this is an imperial lathe.

It has a Tyco Electonics Crompton Small Motors 1425RPM, 550W, 240V motor with a Myford switch allowing forward / reverse operation.

In terms of condition, out of more than 50 Myford series 7 lathes that I have prepared for sale over the past five years, I would rank this machine as being in the top 3 with numbers 1 & 2 being machines that hadn’t previously been used! During the process of giving this machine a full strip down and inspecting it, there was only a minuscule amount of swarf present across the entire machine (a bit behind the lead screw guard and around the top slide), key areas such as the gib strips had no visible sign of wear, and lubrication groove in the front spindle bearing was perfectly clean as shown in the final photo.

In summary, the machine does not appear to have been used for any significant work, however note the following points i) parts of the headstock have had their paintwork touched up, particularly the headstock belt guard ii) there is some oil staining on the bed from where carriage has been static and oil in the wiper felt has been in contact with the same part of the bed for prolonged periods of time iii) there is a nick in rear inside edge of the bed at the head stock end. Please review the photos to assess the condition of this machine.

As with all Super 7 lathes that I prepare for sale, it has brand new vee belts on the primary drive motor to countershaft and secondary drive countershaft to spindle, a new spindle lubrication wick and a new wiper felt.

Also included are the following accessories

  • Myford / Toolmex 4″ 3 jaw self centering chuck
  • 2MT drill chuck for use in the tailstock
  • Selection of 2MT dead centres for use in the tailstock

Note that the gearbox has been drained of oil, ready for shipping. It will need to be refilled as part of commissioning this lathe in your workshop.
