Denford Viceroy T.D.S1/1G.B lathe

Sorry, now sold

This is a Viceroy T.D.S1/1G.B lathe serial number 23475 by Denford Machine Tools. It is believed to have been purchased by its former owner in July 1977.

This model features an easy change gearbox, metric screw cutting capability, and power cross feed. To the rear of the bed there is also the rigid base for a copy and taper turning attachment, although the taper swivel plate and copy mechanism are not present, there is a measurement scale fitted instead. Maybe with some ingenuity, and by looking at the manual, it might be possible to remake the missing components?

There is a single phase 550W motor by Brook Crompton Parkinson motors, allowing the lathe to be powered from a standard plug socket. There are safety interlocks fitted to the motor cabinet door and gear cover that stop the motor if they are opened whilst the lathe is running.

Also included are the following accessories

  • 5″ Elliot 4 jaw independent chuck
  • 6″ Pratt 4 jaw independent chuck
  • fixed stead
  • travelling steady
  • Kingston quick change tool post, with a large selection of tool holders
  • two drill chucks
  • two face plates
  • live centre
  • dead centre
  • manuals

Note that there isn’t a 3 jaw self centreing chuck – a bit unusual as normally this is standard piece of kit – so an early project with this lathe will be to make an adapter to allow one of the existing backplates to be used with a new 3 jaw chuck.

Collection in person of this lathe is available. I can assist with loading it using an engine hoist into a suitably sized high top van. The length of the lathe means it won’t fit onto a standard pallet for delivery, but if you are within 4 hours travel time I can deliver this lathe for the cost given in the listing – please check with me before purchasing if this option is required.
