Barker lathe

Sorry, now sold

This is a Barker 36″ bar-bed lathe with Serial Number 2470/404, which according to Tony Griffiths excellent lathes.co.uk, indicates that this machine could be dated to February 1947, with this being the 303rd machine to be built. Please do take a look at the Barker lathes information that Tony has collated to find out more about this model of lathe.

It is fitted with a 1HP 240V single phase motor, with a control switch that permits forward and reverse operation of the spindle.

Also included are the following items ….

  • 3 jaw chuck + key
  • large faceplate
  • two plates that mount on the spindle – could be used to mount a chuck or workpieces
  • top slide
  • fixed steady
  • collet holder for use in spindle plus selection of collets
  • various change gears
  • drill chuck for use in tailstock
  • several tool holders + spare inserts

There are no guards for the gears or pulleys at the left hand end of the lathe, so with safety in mind, probably worth fabricating something suitable when commissioning this lathe in your workshop.
